How to Read Your Bill

Free · No obligation · An honest answer, even when solar doesn't make sense

What we look at

Your bill tells us almost everything

Usage, price, season and rate plan: the four things that decide what solar and a battery could do for your home.

  • Your real price per kWhDivide this month's new charges by the kWh you used. On the bill below: $298.80 ÷ 815 kWh = 36.7¢ per kWh.
  • Your usage across the yearThe usage chart shows how your use swings with the seasons. This home ran about 29 kWh a day in August, more than double February's 11.
  • Your rate plan and tiersThis bill went past its baseline allowance, so 431 of its 815 kWh were charged at the higher Tier 2 price.
  • The programs you qualify forYour utility, your location and your household decide which California programs fit. We check every one.
